When I set up my OD&D board I got a lot of unhappy folks who went to visit and then found that they couldn't look at anything without becoming a member. I wonder if we get some of the same thing happening here.

For some reason the "remain logged in" function won't work for me, so I need to log in each day that I visit these boards. That means that I start out viewing what a non-member would see, then after I log in it switches to the full version. If I wasn't a member of the boards I might visit, see that there wasn't much to look at, then go away. I wonder if we are losing potential posters who don't realize that much of the cool stuff is hidden until you join.

What I did for my OD&D boards was:
1. Open up viewing sections to everyone
2. Limit who can start threads and/or post to threads to members

I don't know how the software works for this board, but you might consider something similar here. Might attract more members.

Just my two domars. 8-)

My "remain logged in" function doesn't work for me, either.

I have made a lot more content available to non-members as an experiment.

Thanks for the suggestion.

And it may not make any difference to folks who stopped in long ago then went away, but hopefully newcomers will be more attracted to the goodness.

I'm going to "plug the site" on my OD&D Discussion board again. 8-)

I have to login every time.

I think opening more of the site for casual readers is a great idea. Some where some one posted conversion rates for lurkers to posters and it was surprising. Something like ten to one?

I suppose that explains the fact that we have a bunch of members basically without any postings at all. They had to join to lurk and to see content, but have no interest in speaking up.
